Easiest to avoid by setting up the projector completely level. The lens shift adds great flexibility to inverted overhead mounting options. It is hard to argue that these voice command features, even with the promised additions, are by themselves worth the $300 higher cost for the UHD51A compared with the UHD50. However the other additions--FI, 3D, built-in USB media player, support for mobile devices, and boosting the warranty to two years--add enough value to easily justify the increased price. As with most DLP projectors, the UHD51A can show rainbow artifacts.
– and I’m not just talking space walks, I’m talking the kind of dark scenes you will find in most movies. Skin tones looked better than the Epson, not by virtue of more color accuracy, but because, by comparison the Epson often made Jennifer Lawrence’s face seem under lit. It avoids most of the dimness tendency without sacrificing too much of that extra wow that that High Dynamic Range promises. Eric talks about different combinations on his pages, something you will want to read if you buy one of these. I tried different recommended variations and found one I really liked, balancing the mid and lower range brightness without sacrificing too much pop to the scene. While I applaud Optoma's continuing 3-D support in the 4K projectors, I sooo wish they retained the VESA 3D sync port which makes RF glasses a possibility.
OPTOMA's most light weighted ultra short throw projector will make its debut at the 2022 Taipei International Audio Show
Game and Reference modes both deliver a touch lower brightness, with color that's similar in hue but less saturated. HDR Sim is just a little green shifted, but nowhere near as much as the brightest mode. Eco mode lowers brightness by about 33% compared with the full power setting. This feature allows you to save your calibrated day and night mode settings for the highest possible viewing experience.
For the price this is really good value, it will handle minor light in the room obviuosly being better totally dark. Now I would have loved to see a good dynamic iris, but you can’t have everything at this price point, considering this is the pricing range for “entry level” 4K content capable projectors. Estimated delivery dates - opens in a new window or tab include seller's handling time, origin ZIP Code, destination ZIP Code and time of acceptance and will depend on shipping service selected and receipt of cleared payment. Use voice commands to power the projector on and off, change volume, change input source and control the USB media player.

Filter projectors based on your desired features and specs. CFI works nicely, image sharp, but no match for 4K content. Very good skin tones are no problem for the UHD51A projector - post calibration. An anaylsis tool is used to ensure best possible user experience.
Additionally, the UHD51A utilizes the latest Texas Instruments 4K UHD DLP chipset capable of displaying 8.3-million simultaneous distinct pixels at screen sizes 140 inches and higher. The images above show some good dark scenes from various sources. The Bond train image above in black levels should be your go to image, and again, you can compare to other projectors. When viewing the Casino Royale/Bond night train this as good as any – for example look for details in the tracks in the lower right, and inside that large dark area of the forest on the right. I usually also provide a greyscaled image of Katnis and Rue sleeping outside. So rely on the greyscale Bond, as well as the other images.
Optoma
In the world of more expensive lenses , you might buy a little more sharpness, but you also get more clarity – a clearer image . The secret sauce – if you will, the smarts – is supporting Alexa which I’ll go into at length in this review. Optoma put their “home theater” color wheel in this projector, but still manages to claim 2400 lumens, more than other 4K UHD projectors with similar wheels. To preserve the purity of the original image, Optoma projectors can accept high definition sources at 24 fps to display movies exactly as the director intended. Watch movies directly from your projector without the need of a laptop or PC by using the built-in media player. Simply copy your files to a USB stick and watch them on the big screen.

Should you need to use the UHD51A's onboard audio instead of an external sound system, the two 5-watt stereo speakers deliver good sound quality and enough volume for a small to mid-size room. Our Highly Recommended designation is earned by products offering extraordinary value or performance in their price class. The difference between the two relates to the smarts and Wifi.
Our Take on the Optoma UHD51A
Optoma projectors can display true 3D content from almost any 3D source, including 3D Blu-ray players, 3D broadcasting and the latest generation games consoles. Ultra HD 4K resolution delivers sharper, life-like images and richer colors - allowing you to sit closer to the screen and enjoy a more immersive experience. If you want to know what the best black levels look like, look at the one JVC’s image in the set.

To ensure the security and availability of COLAMCO's sites and services, it is sometimes necessary to verify if a visitor is a user or a bot. It should be very difficult for a bot to perform but easy for a human. My experience with refurbished anything seems to be just as good as buying new. Obviously the warranty may not be good but generally the places I buy from have a pretty good short term guarantee.
If you aren’t one of the relatively few who see rainbows on slow DLP color wheels, then you are getting a picture that is about as good as it gets , for this price point. Then consider, that the UHD51’s not so smart twin, the UHD50, offers the identical picture, and therefore an even better value proposition for those who don’t care about Alexa control Take your pick. A well thought out media room or other room you have good lighting control of, will also work well, but do not consider this a bright room projector, it isn’t built to conquer a lot of ambient light. Of course when dealing with ambient light, having just the right light absorbing screen can improve the equation.

Unlike some 4K projectors, the UHD51A handles the switch from SDR to HDR input and back again fully automatically. When it detects HDR, it switches to HDR color mode as the only choice. When it detects SDR, it switches back to whatever color mode it was previously set to.
This Optoma projector allows you to see far more detail and texture. Objects look more solid and lifelike and the extra detail creates a greater sense of depth. Truth is, most of us still are forced to watch mostly 1080p or lower resolution content. Sure there’s some streaming 4K on Netflix, and new movies are mostly coming out in 4K Blu-ray, but other than some action and sci-fi, not much that isn’t almost brand new. (I find that depressing!) There are significant number of movies that I would replace my Blu-ray with the 4K if they were offered.

Sushil, we can only measure the sample we have, and we cannot make any representation that the samples are representative of the entire production run. On our particular units, our UHD50 test unit meausured about 15% brighter than the 51A, but ony in the maximum Bright mode. In video modes they were only 6% apart, which one could attribute to manufacturing variance.
And, on the other hand, those that choose to create home theaters, normally use very dark surfaces, and full lighting control, because that’s what delivers the really Big, Immersive Experience! Screen with “ok” black levels than a 65” with great ones – even I have to draw a line somewhere. For those less “enthusiast” though, the Optoma does a pretty good job compared to most of its competition, which are mostly other 4K UHD DLP projectors.
